Hugh Hefner put any illness rumours to bed on Friday night. Fed up with the speculation surrounding his health, the 90-year-old Playboy star shared a picture with 30-year-old wife Crystal. The pair looked relaxed and happy as they enjoyed a movie night together. “Tonight’s Mansion movie is the classic western, Shane,” he captioned it.
And just in case that wasn’t enough to silence the speculation, he followed it up with: “I wish the tabloids had informed me a little earlier in the week that I’m sick. I might have cancelled my weekend plans.”
Earlier in the day it was widely rumoured the 90-year-old wasn’t feeling well, with NBC reporting police officers even went to the Playboy founder’s home based on information from US media outlets who were said to be hearing rumours about death.
LAPD Officer Mike Lopez told NBC: “This obviously did not happen. Mr. Hefner spoke with an officer at the West LA station and confirmed he’s OK.”
The New York Post reported that the mogul – who hadn’t been seen in public since May – was “supersick” and that there were big concerns over his health.
A spokesperson for Hugh later also insisted he was perfectly fine.
One told the New York Post newspaper: “He looks like he is down to around 90 pounds and supersick. His people are really trying to keep this under wraps. You even have to sign a confidentiality agreement to go up to see him.”
They said: “Hugh Hefner is fine. It is no secret that over the past few years he has suffered with back pain that has made it a bit more challenging for him to get around, but at 90 years of age he is enjoying his life and still very involved in the day-to-day activities of editing the magazine.”
